Task 8 - Analysising music video's G-Eazy 'you got me'

G- Eazy's music video 'you got me' contains many conventions of a hip hop genre music video as within it, it has women with sexual connotations, alcohol and many references to drugs also. The music video's lyrics often dont match up with the scene in the actual video. However here and there they do. There are many close ups and mid shots within this music video and each one shows a girl stripping or pole dancing which contains the connotations of what G-Eazy's lifestyle may be like in reality. The video has no real narrative at all. Throughout the video G-Eazy portrays his views whilst he is on drugs and things like that and this is shown as the video has many effects on it that make it feel almost as if he is on drugs such as the dazed and spinning aspect. A lots of the camera shots are featured outside of a gas station this is just a location where he raps. He also references his gang throughout and within the music video it has his gang shown behind him. Theres many bright lights within the strip club which add to the atmosphere of being there as well as this within in it, it features many close up shots of various amounts of money this represents the image he is trying to portray. The image of fame and wealth with the aspect of stardom. The whole video overall represents his lifestyle in which he has money, women and drugs. The purpose of this music video is to entertain the audience and keep them watching the video as well as giving an insight into his life. The overall reason for this music video is to promote this song and promote his upcoming album. I believe G-Eazy has every aspect of Richard Dyers stardom theory as he has youthfulness, talent, sex appeal, anger, creativity and material goods within his music video. G-Eazy is simultaneously ordinary and extraordinary as he connects with his target audience on many levels through the drugs, sex, money or the alcohol as well as being talented and unique with his lyrics and music video.
